We dedicate this hoodie to the City of Detroit.  Our motto is “Speramus meliora; resurget cineribus,” which translates to “We hope for better things; it shall arise from the ashes.”

It was penned by Father Gabriel Richard, a Catholic priest at Ste. Anne’s Church, on June 11, 1805 after a terrible fire swept through Detroit and completely burned the city down.  With no professional fire department to battle the blaze, Detroiters formed a “bucket brigade” to pass buckets of water from person to person, starting at the river and ending wherever the fire was.  The city's population of 600 found themselves homeless and in need of shelter and food. Father Richard organized the food shipments that helped feed the hungry people and gradually get Detroit back on her feet.
